Ok I haven’t blogged about a cover yet and didn’t expect to, but OMG! This is one of the most amazing covers I’ve heard of this song! Just wow. He took a Mariah classic and made it his own in a really beautiful way. Pop vibes became soulful vibes. Never heard of this guy before but I sure have now!
What I love so much about this performance is everyone shines. Budjerah’s vocals are so good, the backing vocalists are fantastic, the band is so on point.. I just love when everyone involved in a collaboration shines as brightly as each other, it’s so beautiful and just one of the greatest things to me. Like, you know how there are just certain things in the world that just bring you immense joy? That’s one of the things on my list. The performance feels so emotional and well thought out, and I just think intentionality makes magic. Never imagined this song in this way and never thought it could be well done without a guitar in the intro. I’ve been proven wrong in the best way.
For the record, this is one of my favourite Mariah songs. My favourite cover was always David Cook’s version, I remember how it blew my mind that he actually made it work amazingly in the pop rock genre. it felt like he cared about his vocal choices, he didn’t sound like he hated it, he convinced me that he got into the emotion. I think that’s why it impressed me, and I still have the same feelings about it to this day. This one is just as good, now I have two faves. I hope you love it as much as me.
