Song Stuff

So I’ve been mixing my vocals for the compilation song, and I feel like it’s going pretty well so far. I got started on it a little later than expected but it’s not a huge deal. I wasn’t happy with how the main vocals were sounding last week, but I fixed that issue earlier this week YAY. Also, I thought of some fun delay throws. It was suggested to me to add more stacks to the last chorus so I did that as well. The beauty of doing multiple takes is you have doubles right there waiting for you when you need more.

I also changed my mind on some of those outro adlibs that I originally planned to remove… Finding what I felt like was a great delay for them is what caused this, because it made them feel less show-offy to me and accentuated things how they were intended to. The value of time and perspective I suppose. I unmuted them for a while then kinda liked it, but upon revisiting, I didn’t like it again. So, I decided to split them up and tested how it felt to have some lines muted and others unmuted. I tried all combinations, and what I’ve landed on so far is leaving the second line muted.

I do try to get all of these decisions out of the way during the vocal production/arranging phase. However during mixing it isn’t unusual for me to think something little won’t work and then unmute it later on to find out it does. I’ve had the opposite experience as well where I think something works then at some point down the line something feels off about it to me, then I mute it to discover it wasn’t right for the song. I’ve also had experiences where I feel like something is missing, and will quickly add another adlib, layer, or whatever I feel like can fill the gap that I feel. This did occur with this song, I added some more backing vocals in the second verse. What’s funny about that, is I didn’t even realize anything was missing until one day where I randomly had the idea to try it. That said, I wouldn’t have been disappointed if they weren’t there, I just think they’re cool additions. I also think the only reason they came up is because I carved out space for getting the song completed (which I did by the deadline), and another for additional production elements plus mixing (which is where we’re at now)

If any further small changes are needed I will have time to do those even with the time crunch. Next up is doing stuff for other people which I should be able to give my full focus to. That makes me feel good. I don’t like giving partial focus, that vibe isn’t for me. So it’s a relief to basically have this out of the way.
