Muni Long “Delulu”

So most people who know me well know that I absolutely love Muni Long. She is just my favourite person in R&B right now. In fact, I covered one of her songs earlier this year. She brings those old school vibes back that I love so much with a modern touch. She captures so much of 90’s/early 2000’s vibes, which is basically what I live for. Her latest single “Delulu” is no exception to these throwback vibes. However this time, it’s more of an 80’s inspired ballad with powerful vocals to complement it. I’m loving it. I’m really into the production as well, it’s so well done. I love how clear it sounds as a whole and how up front her vocals are.

Let’s start by saying, the term “delulu” hasn’t quite grown on me yet. If you didn’t know, it’s short for “delusional.” I never thought I’d use that word, but here I am singing it. Just a matter of time before it makes its way into my sentences I’m sure. I love how she sounds singing it and I’ve been of course learning the lyrics.

I’m gonna go in order of what I’m most excited to talk about, so essentially favourite parts.
I love that filtered delay on “little do you know” just before the first chorus. It’s perfect. The last lines of the chorus, “I’m delulu, I’m delulu, over you” is catchy AF. And those chimes complementing it at the end of that first chorus, damn. Just listen to it. It’s beautiful. I really like the keys as well.

I love how the second verse takes us to a snap, reserving the big snare for the prechorus and chorus. It keeps that verse as meaningful as the first, yet has enough substance to keep things moving. And excuse me, that “little do you knoooooooooow” coming out of the prechorus, as she holds that note and it fades into the reverb… just wonderful. Yes please. Hello beautiful we hear you!

I also love how the “you” from “over you” on the chorus fades into the reverbe taking us to the bridge, and on the same line at the end of the last chorus. It sounds amazing to me. And yes, I know, it’s not often I talk about reverb, usually I don’t prefer it for vocals, but hey. There are always exceptions.

In the bridge, She rhymed “irrefutable” with “delusional”. What! Amazing. A clever rhyme always gets me, what can I say. Not to mention the awesome note on that word taking us into the chorus! Yes please! Her vocals are absolutely incredible on this song, It’s so awesome to hear her belt. She also sings with such clarity, I always liked that about her. It’s so nice to be able to understand lyrics with little to no struggle. I wish more people would pay more attention to that.

Fave lines

From verse 1:
“After the first link
I’m tryna lock in baby, clink clink”
Cool lines. I never would have thought of that.

From verse 2:
“Little do you know
I attach when you detach
I’m toxic as hell yeah it’s unmatched
Break up then I take you back
I don’t know why I’m like that”
I like the way those rhyme and flow.

Anyway, it’s hard for me to shut up about this song, I’m hard core obsessing over it and I hope you’ll join me. If not, that’s okay, I’ll be over here listening to and singing it anyway!
