Song update

I’m really liking how this song is sounding now. I ended up scrapping ideas for adlibs in a couple sections. They work, but in this song they felt too show-offy and killed the emotion a little. I think how I have it makes the point in a more painful way, which is why I like it LOL.

I’ll show you what I mean. Note that this all is unmixed so please ignore that part and only focus on what we’re talking about here. Let’s start with the outro. So here’s what it sounds like with adlibs:

Now this is Without them:

Do you feel a difference? I do.

Also in the second prechorus, here it is with some adlib ideas.

Then without.

See how unnecessary that is? Sure it can work,, but it just doesn’t feel right. So I didn’t bother to refine it.

I am a proponent of trying every idea you have then deciding later or not if they are the right fit for the song. The truth is, sometimes things sound better in your head than outside of it and vice versa. There’s a mute button for a reason lol. I tried a few other things too, but those were the most significant. I did also spend 10 minutes trying to decide between 3 versions of the word “tonight” lol. the end result was a comp of “to” from one take and “night” from another. I’d like to say that’s out of the ordinary for me to spend that kind of time on one word, but I’d be lying.

So there you go, some insight into my vocal production. As far as the song itself, I feel like I’m gonna call it done. I think it’s basically ready to be mixed now. I don’t think I have any more big ideas, will go through and do a bit more editing and refine levels but that’s really it. I’m done well before the deadline, so I hope now I can help everyone get theirs completed, that’s what I’d like to do anyway. I really wanted to make sure I have space in my life for other people in case they need some help. Goal accomplished, yay!
